About BrayWin Tree Management

Meet Troy Allan -
The Branch Manager

40+ years of climbing, cutting, and caring for trees — with honesty first, chainsaw second.

Hi, I’m Troy – founder of BrayWin Tree Management.

I’ve been working with trees for over 40 years. It started when I was a kid in Nova Scotia, shaping Christmas trees with a handsaw and learning how to “read wood” the way some people read the weather. Back then, it wasn’t about titles or certifications — it was about paying attention. Watching how trees reacted to weather, pruning, or neglect. Learning from people who knew their stuff, not from books but from decades of experience. That’s how I learned, and it’s what stuck.

Growing up in a forestry community also meant I was exposed to every side of the industry — from clearcutting and logging trucks to lumber mills, silviculture, and Christmas tree farms. Back then, a tree was treated as currency, valued only in mass and not as an individual. BrayWin was founded on the opposite philosophy: to look at one tree at a time.

When I moved west, I spent four years with the City of Red Deer Parks Department. Managing trees in public spaces taught me how important safety, precision, and timing are when people rely on those trees every day. Those lessons still guide how I work today.

My Philosophy

BrayWin Tree Management is built on three simple rules:

Do the job right.

Respect the tree.

Leave the site better than you found it.

If a tree can be saved, I’ll save it. If it needs to come down, I’ll do it safely and cleanly. I’ll never top a tree — because that’s the fastest way to destroy it. I don’t rush jobs. I take the time to explain what’s happening so you understand and feel confident about your decision. Every tree deserves a fighting chance, but ultimately risk trumps this. My job is to deliver a thought-out approach with as many options as possible so that you, as the caretaker of a tree, are able to make a decision based on those facts.

Why “BrayWin”?

The name combines my son Brayden’s name and my mom Winnie’s. They’re two of the people who shaped who I am, and this business carries their names because it carries my values: family, honesty, and hard work.

Qualified? Honest Answer.

I trained at Olds College, graduated valedictorian, and earned recognition from instructors and peers. Technically, I’m a qualified arborist, not a “certified” one — because that title is trademarked by an organization that charges for an exam. Here’s the truth:

“A certificate doesn’t mean you know how to use a chainsaw. Experience does.”
And I’ve got both.

More Than a Job

For me, this isn’t just work. It’s a legacy. It’s what I know, what I love, and what I take pride in doing right. Whether you need pruning, removal, or just peace of mind, I’ll help you understand what’s really going on.

Let’s give your trees the care they deserve.

A Few Things You Might Not Expect

  • I once cut 79 trees in two days (big ones).

  • Clients often tell me I work faster on my own than crews with several people — and that my tree service prices are some of the most competitive in Red Deer.

  • I’ve spotted bird nests, flying squirrels, and hollowed-out trunks that could have crushed a roof — and built supports to keep families safe without disturbing wildlife.

  • I’ve taught arborist students while still in training myself.

  • I’ve worked with firefighters, physiotherapists, construction crews, and campgrounds — often as their first call because I explain what’s happening and show up when I say I will.

  • I’ve turned leftover stumps into birdhouses, giving trees a second life and families a way to remember them.

  • When I’m not working on trees, I’m sketching wildlife with a pencil.
